THE FIERY ASCENSION OF THE PROPHET ELIJAH. Late 18th century, Central Russia. Egg tempera, gesso on wood panel with raised borders or “kovcheg”, one splits on the back. Very unusual, bride colors were used on this icon. Left side is show Prophet Elijah and Elesey cross Jordan River and Prophet Elijah in cave and angel with raven bring him food. On the right side and center Prophet Elijah the fiery ascension on the sky. 9” x 10 ˝”
